Hi Jwest: Agreed. Since this trek isn't easy, we need a fair amount of experience. I'm 27, climbed Tahan once, and have done some treks ie Kinabalu, Belumut, Anapurna twice. My friends have also climbed their fair share of mountains but not Tahan. Both of them are quite fit. Of course, Tahan takes the cake. That's why its important to get good travel buddies. I may have another friend who's climbed Tahan once coming along.
We will be getting a guide and renting equipment both thru a Singapore travel agency that I've gone trekking with before.
I know that there's still bound to be some uncertainty, especially with the numerous things that could go wrong with Tahan. That's part of the fun, isn't it?
Rest assured that we're not daredevils and we won't be slip-shod in planning for contingencies.
Not very sure how to drop a PM but perhaps you could drop me a PM if you're still interested? Cheers!
