    Hi,
Anyone keen in joining me for the Nepal - Annapurna Circuit Trek in December. It is a 21 days trek, but the half circuit can be conquered in 16 days.
The air ticket is cheaper during this period (1k) and since I have been to Annapurna Base Camp, I can get the guide to give a reasonable price... of course it depends on how many people in the team.
Looking forward to hear from you.

    Regards
    Te

Annapurna Round in December? I'm bit worried coz it will be difficult to cross Thorong Pass in winter. Yea, I agree with you airfare will be cheaper and other costs will also go down because December is off season for Nepal. I don't think it is a wise idea to go for Annapurna Round or Circuit trekking in winter. Anyway all the best.

    Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. As Nepal_Trek has mentioned that it could be difficult to Thorong Pass, I sort of give up hope that noone would be interested in joining me. Well, Annapura full-circuit will take 21 days or more to cover, but half circuit will take 17 days. The approximate trekking per day could be 5-6 hours. Following is the my trekking plan, which I hope is useful to you.

Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Beshishahar.
Day 02: Trek from Beshishahar to Bahundanda (1305m.) and it takes about 6 hours.
Day 03: Trek from Bahundanda to Chamje (1410m.) which takes about 6 hours.
Day 04: Trek from Chamje (1410m. ) to Dharapani (1960m.) and it takes about 6 and half hours.
Day 05: Trek from Dharapani to Chame (2675m.) which takes about 6 and half hours.
Day 06: Trek from Chame to Pisang (3100m.) which takes about 5 hours.
Day 07: Trek from Pisang to Manang (3440m.) and it takes about 5 and half hours.
Day 08: Rest day at Manang and hang in and around town.
Day 09: Trek from Manang to Yak Kharka (4350m.) and it takes about 3 and half hours.
Day 10: Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4420m.) which takes about 3 and half hours.
Day 11: Trek from Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3850m.) via Thorong La (5416m.) Pass and it takes about 7 hours.
Day 12: Trek from Muktinath to Kagbeni (2895 m.) and it takes about 3 and half hours.
Day 13: Trek from Kagbeni to Jomsom (2713m.) which takes about 3 and half hours.
Day 14: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara which takes about 20 minutes.
Day 15: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by tourist mini bus that takes about 7 hours.

I have done some research on it and see many remcommendation that going to Kathmandu to get a porter is as good as getting a confirm tour guide over the website. It could be a challenge to do so, but I believe it should not be a problem. I have been there once and most of the Nepalese are very honest and friendly. I have trust on them.

    Hi,

I believe that is the track I did in yr 2000, the challenger builds as you move and climax between Manang and the early morning push to the high pass. We took 15days, and some British war veteran did a quick turn with 7days.

Yes, winter is a bad idea. My guide told me the snow could have been chest high.

The Nepali are nice folks. Join them the evening tea / drink before next day push to the high pass.

If you need an experience guide to cover this circuit, you can PM me.

    Hi Epalite,

Thanks for your offer to introduce a experience guide. I read that the trek can be done without a guide.... hmmm... but I don't think I am tough enough to do that. As suggested in website, getting a local guide there actually helps the locals, instead of via agency that publish their service on web. So, I am going to try that out.

I am surprise you did it in 15 days... can it be you did a half circuit? I am actually looking forward to do the full circuit which takes about 20 days. Actually hope to cover it within 18 days, but I guess it is not good to rush especially during winter.

The reason that I pick to go during winter is because I wanted to see snow flake falling from sky... I haven't see snow before... I must have sound funny. Unfortunately, I heard that weather is unprecditable that it may not snow during decmember. Last year, it only start snowing in Feb. Hope I won't be disappointed then.

    Hi Te!

I've been thinkng to trek in Nepal either November/December 2009. However, I must back in Singapore before 18 Dec due to winter solstice, or "Dong Zhi" (in Mandarin) on 20 Dec'09

I never done any trekking in any countries except hiking to "The TreeTop Walk" at MacRitchie 3 or 4 years ago.

Annapurna Circuit Trek - 20 days sounded very tough (i'm a lady) and I have 10 days from annual leave.

    Let me know, ok?

    Hi Yaida,
Glad to hear from you. Me too, I have only 12 days of leave. In fact, I have 2 dates on mind. From 16th to 5th or from 20th to 9th. Excluding Sat, Sun and Hari Raya, I need to apply for 13 days leave. With the coming Deepavali falling on Sat, I earn another leave and henceforth need not apply for any unpaid leave. I am not sure if you can take 2 days extra leave.

I am a lady also and so far has only done Annapurna Base Camp. It was not very tough but just that need mentally prepared.... I am not sure how the Circuit trek will be. Have been reading quite a lot but seems like most trekker commented that it is a easy trek that does not need guide. Hope I can make it. I would be glad if you can join me.

If you really keen, it would be great to meet up with you and discuss more. PM me then!

    Regards
    Te

Just an update. I am just back from Nepal.
It is not very tough to pass Thorung Pass even during this season. It all depends on your determination. The average maximum hours of trekking is 6 hrs, except Thorung Pass which takes me 15 hours to complete. I believe if you did some training before going and also have a proper shoe, you can make it within 9hrs. Nepal is really beautiful and for the 20 days trekking, I never fail to wake up early to see sunrise... but on the other hand, the sight of poverty and donkey is something that I hope to erase from the beautiful picture...
By the way, just a note that if you ever browse the web looking for indepnedant guide, please be careful. Many website suggest to get independant guide instead of via agency, so that the guide or porter get whatever you paid and need not pay any commission fee to agency. This is not true. I pay an independant guide 15USD and later realise that the porterguide is just getting 700Nps which is less than 10USD. Part of his hard earn money has been ripped off by the person who simply write and draw me the itinenary... This is the ugly and evilish side of Nepal's poverty.

Cool! Got pictures? How did you train for it?

It is unfortunate to hear about your issue with regard to the independant guides - however, for people making a trip there, we sorta "have no choice" because these guides are the ones that take the effort to get connected with the rest of the world and get business.

Maybe they don't deserve THAT big slice of the pie, but who is to say that?
