I was reviewing my photos from Melbourne yesterday, and I’m pretty disappointed in the turnout – a lot of photos are overexposed or unfocused. My camera is really going bonkers! I’m quite frustrated, considering I spent so much time just walking around snapping photos, and one out of every seven is spoilt due to the camera. Argh.

I think I should use another camera for trekking – maybe I may not get a DSLR so soon, at least until I can really afford the photography hobby, I found it quite cumbersome to carry a camera around travelling, so a compact camera should be good. I suppose I can borrow my mum’s camera for my treks, while I save up for a new one.

I talked to my friend regarding the camera I want to get (Canon 350D), and he mentioned that it would be better to get something more durable – the Canon 350D uses a plastic body.

Well then, until the day I have the cash to play with such expensive equipment, I guess it will be just “Point and Shoot” for me! It serves as a motivation to make more money so that I can go trekking in nicer places and with better equipment right?

I was thinking about my trips this coming June – the beautiful scenery I’m going to see, especially the one at the summit of Mount Kinabalu… so excited! I am considering to buy a digital SLR camera because the current one I am using is a little spoilt.

However, a DSLR is going to cost a bomb – the one I am targeting, the Canon 350D (an entry level DSLR camera) will cost almost $1800, considering the accessories I need to buy to maintain the camera well. So I posted up a thread in ClubSnap forums asking whether the investment is worthwhile.

I’m HAPPY… that the people in the forum discouraged me from the investment! Haha… Come to think of it, it is true, it would be really really hard to maintain the camera in the wilderness, considering all the moisture, the hard knocks… and not to mention, the many occasions where I slipped and fell while I was holding my camera. Another point brought up was that it would be difficult, unless I really go with a group of photographers, because DSLRs are more cumbersome to operate, needing to change the lenses etc, the trekking guides may not be happy to wait for me!

So well, I shall stick to my camera and see what I can do with it! Good that I’m convinced.
