Bukit Timah Hike on Sunday 30 November 2008

I’m organizing an short hike on 30 November 2008 (that is next Sunday), up Bukit Timah Hill!

Here are the details:

Date: 30 November 2008

Time: 0830hrs – 1400hrs

Venue: Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Where to meet: 0830hrs sharp outside the visitor center toilet!

Fee: What fee? Its FREE! (Thanks Ana, for asking though) ;)

We’ll be taking the smaller trials and this will probably take 3-4 hours, depending on the group size and speed. From my previous experience, there will be quite a lot of steps (enough to get you panting if you don’t train regularly), so be prepared. :)

According to the NParks Website, the yellow trial takes 2 hours. We’ll be taking the black route. Yes, that’s my drawing :P

bukit-timah-hike

You’d probably want to allocate until mid afternoon for the event, if you are an time planning fanatic like me.

Please post a comment this blog post to indicate your interest!

NOTE: Please don’t leave your contact numbers and email in the comment box, because this is a very public blog and you don’t know what people do with numbers they find on the net. Put your email only in the “email” field. I’ll get in touch with your via email.

    Hi Ana, that was fast!

There is always a first time! I don’t know if you can do it or not because I don’t know you personally, in terms of fitness level etc. But certainly can come join us and see if it fits you.

In any case, don’t worry, we are still in Singapore, not in the middle of the jungles. :)

    Its free.

    Some things to bring are:

    - Waterbottle
    - Towel
    - Dry snack or fruit (if you think u will feel hungry at the summit)
    - Change of clothes (if necessary)
    - Camera (if you want to)
    - Insect repellant (if you want to)

Trekkers carry big bag cos need to camp overnight, stay in tents, cooking equipment, food etc.

    hey, i wanna join too!!
stay at Tampines also. anyone wanna share cab with me?? haha.

  21. Kian Ann Says:

    Visit Kian Ann

    Yeah~!

    Cya there, Jeff, Sophie..

JuenJuey and everybody else… I think based on the comments next week I will designate taxi points at specific areas so we can meet and share cab.

I think quite hard to coordinate a “one person board the cab and pick people up along the way” kind of thing. So you ppl might still have to spend some money on a feeder bus or something.

Hi Angie, Shilpa, Samantha, Seow Yen, Amabelle, Mahesh (and anybody I missed out!),

I better find an online registration system for my activities next time… I didn’t expect the response to be so good!

Anyway cya ppl on Sunday! As mentioned, I will send another email out to you probably Thursday or Friday to firm up details with regard to taxi pools, contact numbers, etc.

Looking at the number of people going for this short hike, I might have to break the group up into 2 or 3, and I will need a few experienced trekkers to help lead each group up… just to lead the way and make sure we don’t end up in MacRitchie!

    Volunteers?

    hey all,

about the things to bring, anyways Kian Ann has already told u abt it. i have some additions.
1.A good back pack, lighter the better.
    2. good shoes, which has good grip. dont buy a new shoe now. get something which u r already comfortable with.
3.A pair of extra socks if u need it.
    4.some wet tissues if needed
    5. A small plastic cover to put all ur rubbish inside and throw away when u find a dust bin.
6.sun glasses if u can not tolerate the sun, may be some sun screen lotion too. and a cap
    7. Any emergency medicines that ur taking, like inhalers etc.

The rest anyways Kian ann has already told u.
If i remember anything else will let u people know.
see u all at 8:30 sharp.

    @Kian Ann
hey would have liked to be a volenteer but have done only few trekking trips and this one will be my first one in Singapore and I dont know anything abt bukit timah. so would like to follow some one who is experienced here.

I will be cab pooling from Hougang. see u all there.

  67. sandeep Says:

    Visit sandeep

and yes forgot to tell u. try wearing something very comfortable and something which is not very bright, which might attract animals towards u (are there any animals there?). if no animals there then dont worry.

  68. Kian Ann Says:

    Visit Kian Ann

    Hi Sandeep and All,

No worries with regard to the animals. Its safe :) I haven’t seen any in all my trips there, except maybe for iguanas, birds and monkeys.

If you are lucky enough to see anything bigger than a monkey, immediately think of 4 numbers and let me know! I go and buy 4D! hahaha!

Terrain wise, it is less than 1 star (if you see Mt Ophir as a 3 star), there are very clear cut steps most of the way. In fact, if you take the main road, you can actually drive a car up the summit! That is why we are taking the smaller routes.

That said, wear comfortable clothes and shoes. It might get muddy but probably won’t be slippery unless it rains.

Oh yes, very important – MUST your own medication if you have any. How can I forget that!? Thanks Sandeep for the reminder!

  69. Amabelle Says:
