I want to organise a trip this June/July

I think one of the main reasons why people stop trekking is because of the difficulty to arrange suitable dates where everyone (you normally trek with) can take time off and go out for a few days together. Busy city life is plagued with deadlines to meet, appointments to tend to, and schedules to follow.

Eventually, the momentum dies down and then we find either people trekking alone, or at maximum in pairs… and the rest of us give up the recreation completely.

I don’t want that to happen to me. I want to continue to take trips out of the busy city life even when I am 40, 50 or 60 - as long as it I am physically capable of overcoming the trails and obstacles.

So, I want to hear from you - where do YOU want to go this June/July? Gunung Tahan? Berkelah Waterfalls? Mount Ophir? I want to build a community from this website, so we can all meet and plan trips together.

And yes, it doesn’t matter if you are old or young - as long as you love the outdoors and you love mixing and meeting around with people… and you love trekking.

I’ll be hearing from you - where do you want to go?

Hi, I’m a newbie here in SG (just relocated) but have climbed a mountain in the Philippines last year (Mt. Pico de Loro), just level 1 - 1,000 Kms. above sea level. I really enjoyed that experience, specially climbing the rock pillar which was right beside the summit. I wish I could have another climbing/trekking experience soon, I’m ready ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!!! :-)

Hi Kian Ann, I am also planning a trip to Mt Ophir for the colleagues in my company this year but I have no idea now to do it. Searched the internet but got no info on the various treks or rest points, how long it takes to finish etc.

I have gone to Mt Kinabalu b4 and was able to find alot of info on the internet.

Abit abt myself. I fell in love with trekking/hiking after I climbed Mt KK in 2005. After that, I have been making yearly trips to climb the beautiful mountains in Korea. My aim is to conquer the 3 highest points in Asia namly Mt KK, Jade mountain in taiwan and Mt Fuji in Japan in the order or height.

I am now in the mist of upgrading my gear. I just used my bonus money to buy a Deuter Futera 38liter backpack, a north face Apex soft shell and a Royal Robins convertable pants. Looking for more ideas to upgrade my gear at a reasonable budget.

Please send me your experience of Mt Ophir if possible. Thanks

    Hey Graham,

Wonderful! Hey, yeah, I’ll drop you a mail with the Ophir details.

On that note, I think there is a demand here for self organised itineraries for Singapore trekkers going to the trails in Malaysia hur! I should create a few pages and put it up.

    Hi Kian Ann,

Just came across this post on trip planning in Jun/Jul. I’d love to join, if schedule permits. If not there’s always next time. I’m sick of living in the concrete jungle of KL, dying to go walking in the bush…

    Cheers.

    Hi,
My friend and I are thinking of going to Mt Ophir sometime this September hopefully :), and subsequently Mt Tahan on the later date. Anyone knows whether the park will be open then and interested to go?

    Hi Fredrick,
I think Mt Tahan is closed or will be closed soon for the monsoon and maintenance. Not sure when they will reopen.

I’m interested in any hikes over the weekends so please let me know if any of you are going anywhere soon. Negeri Sembilan has quite a number of small hills. South of Pahang too I should think.

    Cheers

    Hello Budhiprayoga,
Me and a friend will be arriving in Surabaya airport on the 27th of October 2008 and need to be back at Surabaya airport by the 2nd of November 2008 in the morning. We want to trek to the summit of Semeru to watch the sunrise and also see the sun rise or set over Bromo.
How much would this trek cost all up per person and what would it include?
Also I read somewhere that Semeru was closed to trekkers in May 2008, is it closed now and when will it reopen for trekking?
    Thanks Robert
