Welcome to Trekking Singapore and Beyond.
This website and blog journalizes my experiences as I strive to conquer as many mountains in the world as I humanly can. Living in Singapore, I am faced with hectic city life every day – people everywhere are striving and working hard to earn their month’s keep. It is tough to take time off to go for the treks I want to.
Through my own experience, I also found that trekking can be taken up in two ways – one as a challenge for oneself to conquer one’s physical ability, and another as a community recreation activity. Different people have different preferences, I personally enjoy it better as a community recreation – but one sure thing we have in common – we like to take time off the hectic and busy city and go to a place without proper mobile phone reception to spend the night with the insects and wild animals!
Trekking is Fun!
Trekking is fun when you go up with a group of like minded people who don’t mind getting bitten by mosquitoes, enjoy cooking in the dark and sharing food, pushing each other over obstacles when necessary, and cracking cranky jokes to keep each others’ minds off the tiring trek.
Trekking is also about discovering nature, treading lightly, exercising our own of responsibility in keeping the campsites clean, and as the saying goes – “Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.”
Get in Touch
I realise that trekking is not exactly a very common hobby (at least, not as common as sports like basketball or tennis), and as a result, many trekkers trek alone or in pairs. As we move on from our studies to the working world, it is difficult to find time with our “regular trekking kakis”, and without company, we lose touch of this wonderful recreation.
What I hope this website can bring to you is gather Singaporeans of this interest, so we can meet up, plan, and go for trips together. I hope you can get in touch so we can keep our hobby fun.
